Kitten found crawling across the road with umbilical cord still attached

When Kathryn Van Beek spotted a creature crawling across the street, soaked from a recent rain storm, she didn’t know what it was.

The tiny, wet ball of fluff still had his umbilical cord attached; he was only one day old.

Katheryn, from Auckland, New Zealand, picked him up and wrapped him in something warm; on a closer inspection she realized it was a kitten.

She checked with residents in the area to see if they knew more about the kitten and where he’d come from but nobody knew anything so she took him home.

Her and her husband named him Bruce and took it in turns to feed him.

“My mom and dad think that getting up every two hours, smelling like milk all the time and arguing about who is better at getting me to sleep is probably not too dissimilar from being the parent of a human,” Bruce “wrote” on a Facebook page dedicated to his progress.

Kathryn even took little Bruce to work with her in a shoebox so she could continue feeding him milk out of a syringe.

It wasn’t until two weeks into Bruce’s round-the-clock care program began that he opened his eyes.

By week three Bruce had started to explore his surroundings and was no longer reliant on his mom and dad to get around.

And so began the story of Bruce’s survival, a cat who refused to give up despite his tough start in life.

That was in 2015, today Bruce is thriving and loving life with his forever family which also includes big sister Jager the cat.

It’s a miracle this little creature survived, it just goes to show how tough our furry friends are.

Thanks to the wonderful human that scooped him up and took him in he is now a strong and much-loved pet. Please share if you too love Bruce’s survival story.
